Frequently Asked Questions
Do you already need to know how to sing?
No, I teach all levels of singers, from beginners who are completely new and have no singing experience and want to learn, to advanced students who want that extra help for an upcoming audition.
How many lessons will I need to take?
Every singer's voice develops at a different rate depending on how quickly you learn the techniques and apply them to singing. Your dedication to learning will affect how quickly you develop. Some students practise daily between lessons and come to lessons well prepared with lots of questions, and they tend to progress at a very steady pace. Others take a more relaxed approach to learning and thus develop a little more slowly.
I recommend weekly or bi-weekly lessons to see gradual improvement.
Will I develop a dependence upon my vocal teacher to know when I am singing well?
No, in my style of teaching, I get the students to record what they are doing so they can watch it back. This is when I ask, "What do you think you need to be doing in this exercise that you are not currently doing to achieve the sound you want? " This allows the students to analyse their own singing and figure out what needs changing before I just tell them. Using this method of teaching makes the student use critical thinking skills. This is helpful when they are practising at home, so they can identify the problem and find a solution.
I only want to sing as a hobby. Can you still help me?
Absolutely, everyone has their own reason for singing, which is why I tailor every lesson to the individual student to align with their goals.
What styles do you teach?
